A number of flights at Birmingham Airport were hit by a fluid spill yesterday, causing delays for hundreds of Bank Holiday passengers, the Birmingham Mail reports. Hydraulic fluid was found on the runway at 13:00. Four planes were forced to circle the airport, waiting for permission to land, and four were unable to take off, eventually flying out later than planned.
The fluid was cleared up in 40 minutes by a crew from the airport fire station. An airport spokesman said the incident affected around 1000 passengers, however the newspaper reports that at least one flight was diverted to East Midlands Airport, another two landed two hours late and one service was cancelled completely - affecting both an inbound and outbound flight.
