A Boeing 737 with 118 passengers on board flying to Edinburgh Airport was forced to make an emergency landing at Warsaw Airport this morning.
Soon after takeoff from Okecie Airport in Warsaw, the captain of the Polish budget airline Centralwings’ aircraft notified flight control that he could not get the landing gear to recede into the fuselage. When the aircraft flew over the airport to have the landing gear checked by air traffic control, it looked in order and they decided that fault was probably an instrument malfunction.
The crew were advised to circle Warsaw and lose several tonnes of aviation fuel to prevent a possible fire during landing. Airport fire services and ambulances were on full alert, but the flight touched down safely.
One passenger sprained an ankle and was taken to a hospital in Warsaw, while another passenger fainted during the emergency evacuation procedure. The rest of the passengers were expected to fly to Edinburgh later today.
