The Gatwick Airport Consultative Committee (GACC), a watchdog group that advises BAA on community issues, has expressed concern about transport plans relating to the airport - specifically those relating to the Gatwick Express.
The GACC said at its most recent meeting that it opposes the Strategic Rail Authority's (SRA) plans to alter the Gatwick Express rail service, which runs between the airport and Victoria in central London. The SRA wants to change the current non-stop format into a stopping service.
Paula Street, GACC spokesman, said: 'The major thing is surface access to the airport and how that will be achieved. Gatwick only has so much influence over this and are in a bit of a difficult situation.'
Among the other issues discussed by the group was the Government's recent consultation on night flying restrictions and the committee's response to BAA's consultation on its master plan. The committee said that it generally supports the proposal for a one runway, two-terminal airport.
GACC advises BAA Gatwick on matters of concern to local communities and is made up of representatives from nearby local authorities, businesses and travel bodies. The meeting was held at the Holiday Inn Gatwick Hotel last month. The next meeting will be held on Thursday October 13 at 14:00.
