Passengers flying on an AirScotland plane from Glasgow airport to Malaga were delayed for more than 8 hours on yesterday - because their pilot's seatbelt wasn't working. The passengers were told the flight was being delayed because of a 'unscheduled maintenance', as AirScotland's maintenance engineers refused to allow the flight to leave until the seatbelt was fixed.
Passengers on the AirScotland flight to Malaga checked in at an unreasonable 04:30, but were forced to wait until the early afternoon before eventually flying off, because of the 'technical difficulty'. The frustrated holidaymakers had to hang around Glasgow Airport while a new part for the seatbelt was delivered from London Luton airport.
The flight had been due to leave Glasgow Airport at 07:00 yesterday, but passengers were told that it had been delayed due to 'unscheduled maintenance'. The airline didn't divulge the exact details of the problem with the plane until the flight eventually took off - at 13:00.
A spokeswoman for Air Scotland said: 'When we say the flight is delayed due to "technical difficulties", people always assume it's to do with the engines. But it can mean hundreds of things; in this case, there was simply a problem with the captain's seatbelt.'
'It doesn't sound like much, but our maintenance engineers are very efficient and couldn't sign it off until it was fixed. We had to wait until the other part arrived from Luton. We apologise to passengers for the delay, but it's better these things are fixed.'
