BA World Cargo (BAWC) is replacing its 747-400 air freighter planes with 747-8 aircraft next year in a 5 year lease with Global Supply Systems (GSS). The aircraft will be provided to GSS by Atlas Air and will be UK registered.
Steve Gunning, managing director of BAWC, said: ‘The increased range and environmental benefits the 747-8F provides will benefit our customers. Long-haul freighters form an integral part of our business, providing flexibility and capacity on resilient and growing lanes. I am pleased to be continuing our relationship with long-term partners, GSS and Atlas Air.'
The Boeing 747-8 freight planes have a range of 4475 nautical miles (8275 km) and 16% more capacity - equivalent to 7 pallet positions - than the 747-400. The first aircraft will be delivered this autumn.
