Each month we add up all of our heathrow airport hotels sales, and tell you which is the most popular heathrow airport hotel in that month. We also highlight trends in bookings, both from month to month and on a year to date basis.
Until terminal 5 opens, there is only one 'on airport' hotel at heathrow (the Hilton Heathrow), and even the Hilton is attached to the quieter and more remote Terminal 4. There are, however, around 30 hotels on or just off the airport complex, all of which are connected to the airport by a regular transit bus service called the 'Hoppa'. Most are spread along the Bath Road, with a group at the end of the Spur Road (just off the M4).
Below we list the most popular hotels in July, with trends between June and July, and for the year to date. The most popular heathrow airport hotels (based on bookings through this website) for July 2005 were:
1. Renaissance Hotel Heathrow - up 1
2. Park Inn Hotel Heathrow - down 1
3. Holiday Inn Hotel Heathrow M4 - new
4. Travel Inn Hotel Heathrow Airport - down 1
5. Thistle Hotel Heathrow - no change
6. Ibis Hotel Heathrow - new
7. Quality Hotel Heathrow Airport Hotel - new
8. Holiday Inn Ariel - down 2
9. Sheraton Skyline Heathrow - down 5
10. Comfort Heathrow - down 1
Falling out of the top 10 in July
Marriott Hotel Slough - last months 7
Marriott Hotel Heathrow - last months 8
Sheraton Hotel Heathrow - last months 10
Overall bookings at Heathrow were down in July. Unlike most other airports, which have their busiest time during the summer, Heathrow is at its quietest. This is because it is most used by business travellers, who do not travel during the summer.
The Renaissance and the Park Inn swapped places again last month. They were in the July's order in May, then swapped places in June, only to swap back again in July. The Park Inn has been buoyed by some discount pricing, and the Renaissance by its location and by good pricing.
The Holiday Inn M4 dropped out of the top 10 last month, but was back in at number 3 this month. This is a very large hotel most often used by business people (both those travelling through Heathrow, and those from the west of England travelling to London), so it had dropped rapidly in May and June. It did well in July because Holidayextras sold is as their main 'lucky dip' hotel - so it is a price based move.
The Ibis also returned to the top 10, having dropped out in June. It was 6th in May, outside the top 10 in June and 6th in July. Of the fallers, the Sheraton Skyline dropped the most, as we had expected. It did well in June based on a price promotion, but dropped in July as that ended.
Looking at year to date figures, the Thistle remains top, followed by the Renaissance, Park Inn, Marriott Slough and Marriott Heathrow. Both of the Marriotts' dropped out of the top 10 in July though, which allowed the Renaissance and Park Inn to overtake them.
