Unite has released a video to counter ‘gross misrepresentations’ over issues at the heart of its dispute with BA. The union says low wages, a reliance on tax credit top-ups and the distress of being forced to deliver a poor service to passengers are the reasons behind the dispute.
Around 12,000 Unite members of BA cabin crew are currently voting on whether to strike in a row over jobs, pay and working conditions. According to the union, 3 out of 4 cabin crew earn less than £20,000 per year, with some Gatwick staff having to rely on second jobs or tax credits to top up their pay. They also say that a cut in cabin crew numbers at the end of last year is having a ‘terrible’ impact on service to passengers.
A union spokesman said: ‘For those who want to understand the truth behind this dispute, this film shows why crew have been driven to consider industrial action for the second time in as many months.’
