A university professor appeared in court yesterday charged with making a hoax bomb claim at Leeds Bradford Airport. Appearing at Leeds Magistrates Court, Dr Efthymis Zagorianakos, 41, who lectures in geography and environmental management at the University of Bradford, pleaded not guilty to charges of communicating false information about a bomb. He now faces a trail.
Dr Zagorianakos is accused of saying that he had a bomb in his luggage as he checked in at Leeds Bradford for a flight to Amsterdam on April 18. He is also accused of telling a fellow passenger ‘it's only a small bomb’ after she expressed concern about his comment.
He was released on bail and is due to appear before Leeds Crown Court on June 9 for trial. If found guilty, he faces up to 7 years in jail.
