Manchester Airport car park bosses have been warned by Trading Standard for making drivers pay to ‘park’ – even when the car park is full, the Manchester Evening News reports. Trading standards officers took action after a complaint from a driver who spent 20 minutes searching in vain for a space, and then was charged as he left the car park.
The passenger was trying to use the multi storey car park at Terminal Two so that he could wave off a friend who was going on holiday. He eventually gave up after realising the car park was full – but still had to pay £2 as he left. Tere were no signs to tell him that the car park was full and the machines continued to issue tickets even though there were no spaces.
Trading standards officers visited the airport and warned car park bosses they were breaking consumer protection regulations. They said that if it happened again they would take action and told the airport they should look at ways of letting passengers know when car parks are full.
