A survey by AirGate Solutions ranked Manchester Airport as the world’s number one airport twitter feed. The social media firm found there are currently 143 airports worldwide using twitter as a passenger information service, with this number growing rapidly, and that Manchester tops the list as the world's most active and engaged.
The ranking method was a ratio of airport passengers to twitter followers. The top 10 is as follows:
1. Manchester Airport
2. Heathrow
3. Boston
4. Baltimore-Washington
5. Gatwick
6. Orlando
7. Phoenix
8. Los Angeles
9. Minneapolis
10. Dallas
An AirGate spokesman said: ‘If an airport has a higher ratio of followers to passengers then it is likely to be more engaged with its travelling customers. Manchester Airport came out on top, which demonstrates that it is using it to very good effect.’
