the most popular manchester airport hotels in July 2005

26.08.05

Every month we add up all of our manchester airport hotels sales, and tell you which is the most popular manchester airport hotel. We also compare bookings with last month, and highlight booking trends in the year to date.

Manchester is one airport where there is a lot of price driven competition between the hotels serving the airport. This leads to hotels jumping up and down the list from month to month, with a more established pattern and clear leaders on a year to date basis. Not only does this make for an interesting list, it also means that, in order to get the best room for your money, you need to check the price of all hotels at all suppliers (use this compare airport hotel prices search page).

On and off airport hotels at Manchester: There are 6 hotels on the airport complex (the Britannia Airport, Hilton, Marriott, Bewleys, Etrop Grange and Radisson SAS), with the 5 star Radisson SAS the only one connected to one of the terminals (terminal 3). Plus there are another 10 hotels only a couple of miles away from the terminal who offer a 'room with parking' package.

Its boing-boing Crowne Plaza! Top in May, it was the biggest faller in June (down 5) and biggest climber in July (up 5 to number 1 again). All 3 moves were price and availability driven. It prices rooms to go when it has them, but was busy in June (so the rooms it did have were expensive).

The Radisson SAS Manchester Airport was number 1 in April, down 4 places to number 5 in May, up 4 to number 1 in June and down 1 in July. This 5 star hotel priced rooms to go in June and for some periods of July. But there were a number of long flight delays in July, and the Radisson SAS took most of the passengers delayed overnight (or over 2 nights), meaning it had less rooms to sell, and sold less of them it did.

Bewleys had a small bounce too - down one last month, up one in July, as did the Hilton - up 3 this month after being down 3 in June. The Britannia Airport had a bounce in the other direction - up 6 last month, down 5 in July. Like the Radission SAS, it took many of the delayed passengers - 100 of whom held a 'sit in' one day - so it had less rooms to sell.

The two hotels that dropped out of the chart last month - the Britannia Country House and Quality Altrincham - came straight back in this month. And, you've guessed it, the two hotels that entered the charts last month - the Crest Court at 2 and Marriott and 8 - both crashed out again, with the Britannia Ashley joining them.

The most popular hotel in the year to date - the Airport Moat House, soon to become a Holiday Inn - had a quiet month, as it did in June. Its cheapest rooms went months ago. Looking at the year to date numbers, the top 5 now reads Moat House, Britannia Airport, Radisson SAS, Crowne Plaza, Hilton.
