The chief executive officer of Manchester Airports Group (MAG), Geoff Muirhead, is stepping down after 22 years with the UK airports operator. He will retire this year, once a replacement is recruited.
Mr Muirhead, 60, joined Manchester Airport in 1988 as business development director. He was promoted to CEO of the airport in 1992, and took on his current role in 2001 when the group was formed.
During his time as chief executive he oversaw the construction of Manchester Airport's Terminal 2 and second runway, and the acquisition of Bournemouth, Humberside and East Midlands airports, which have transformed MAG in to the second biggest airports operator in the UK.
