A BA call centre employee working in their offices in Newcastle is being questioned in London on suspicion of terrorist fund-raising. He was arrested at the airline's offices, with searches conducted at the premises and a residential address on February 25, it has been reported today. Detectives have been given more time to interview the 30-year-old in London.
The suspect was arrested by North East Counter Terrorism officers as a part of a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command. A spokesman said: ‘On 25 February a 30-year-old man was arrested in Newcastle on suspicion of terrorist fund-raising. He remains in custody at a London police station. Searches at the business premises where he was arrested and residential premises within the Newcastle area are complete.’
A BA spokesman said the airline took security ‘extremely seriously’ but could not comment further during the investigation.
