Newcastle Airport expects to grow out of the recession in the year that it celebrates its 75th anniversary. The airport will mark its special milestone with a series of celebrations and has already unveiled an anniversary logo.
The airport's chief executive, Dave Laws, has predicted passenger growth of 2% over the next 12 months. He said: ‘Newcastle International opened on July 26 1935. We now have the capability to process 7.5 million passengers a year, we fly people to more than 80 destinations worldwide and we play a significant role in the regional economy.'
‘This is an exceptionally proud year for everybody connected with the airport. We have a series of events planned and want to invite as many people to these celebrations as possible.’
